Tuesday Daytime Prayer for 3/7/23
Thank you for praying with us today. Don’t forget you can share this with a friend by forward it to them. If you are praying with us today because someone forwarded this to you, you can subscribe by clicking on the button below.
To pray this prayer, read through each section at a deliberate speed. You can say the words out loud, or to yourself, but do so at a speed that lets you reflect on the words. As you go, you’ll find other directions for specific parts of the prayer. Tuesday and Thursday share the same daytime prayer. Its a time to lift up more specific prayers that you have, either from prayer lists or from your own concerns.
Gathering Prayer
Look upon us, O Lord, and let all the darkness of our souls vanish before the beams of your brightness. Fill us with holy love, and open to us the treasures of your wisdom. All our desire is known to you, therefore perfect what you have begun, and what your Spirit has awakened us to ask in prayer. We seek your face, turn your face toward us and show us your Glory. Then shall our longing be satisfied, and our peace shall be perfect.
Amen.
–Augustine of Hippo (354 - 430)
Hymn - Morning Has Broken
1 Morning has broken
like the first morning,
blackbird has spoken
like the first bird.
Praise for the singing!
Praise for the morning!
Praise for them, springing
fresh from the Word!
2 Sweet the rain’s new fall
sunlit from heaven,
like the first dewfall
on the first grass.
Praise for the sweetness
of the wet garden,
sprung in completeness
where God’s feet pass.
3 Mine is the sunlight!
Mine is the morning
born of the one light
Eden saw play!
Praise with elation,
praise every morning,
God’s recreation
of the new day!
Focusing Prayer - Lead Me
My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going. I do not see the road ahed of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end. Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think I am following Your will does not mean that I am actually doing so. But I believe that the desire to please You does in fact please you. And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing. I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire. And I know that, if I do this, You will lead me by the right road, though I may know nothing about it. Therefore I will trust You always though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death. I will not fear, for You are ever with me, and You will never leave me to face my perils alone. Amen
–Thomas Merton
Psalter
Psalm 95
Here you can either read the words to the Psalm that are below the video, or what works better is to listen to the music from the video while following along with the words.
oh come let us sing to the lord
let us make joyful noise to the rock
of our salvation let us come unto him
with thanksgiving and songs of praise
in his hand are the depths of the earth
the heights of the mountains
the sea is his formed by his hands
and the dry land he made it
oh come let us sing to the lord
let us make joyful noise to the rock
of our salvation let us come unto him
with thanksgiving and songs of praise
this day if you hear his voice
do not harden your hearts
as the day in the wilderness
as your fathers did
oh come let us worship and bow
let us kneel down before our maker
for he is god and we are the people
the sheep of his pasture

Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done
On earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive them that trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
Hymn - This is My Father’s World
1 This is my Father's world,
And to my listening ears
All nature sings, and round me rings
The music of the spheres.
This is my Father's world:
I rest me in the thought
Of rocks and trees, of skies and seas–
His hand the wonders wrought.
2 This is my Father's world:
The birds their carols raise,
The morning light, the lily white,
Declare their Maker's praise.
This is my Father's world:
He shines in all that's fair;
In the rustling grass I hear Him pass,
He speaks to me everywhere.
3 This is my Father's world:
O let me ne'er forget
That though the wrong seems oft so strong,
God is the Ruler yet.
This is my Father's world:
Why should my heart be sad?
The Lord is King: let the heavens ring!
God reigns; let earth be glad!
Benediction - Thanks be to the Lord
For those who have watched over me,
for those that have protected me,
for those that have shielded me,
thanks be to the Lord,
maker of heaven and earth.
For the roof that shades me from the sun,
for the walls that shield me from the storm,
for the bed that warms me in the night,
thanks be to the Lord,
maker of heaven and earth.
To the one who keeps me from evil,
to the one who preserves my life,
to the one who watches over my coming and going,
thanks be to the Lord,
maker of heaven and earth. Amen
In the name of the Father,
and of the Son,
and of the Holy Spirit, Amen
